"Roma Gang", for some a Hip Hop collective, for others a real "Movement", born in Rome in 2019 to compare all the Roman Filipino Hip Hop groups.
The group includes tattoo artists, musicians, designers, video makers and artists of various kinds, all of them are very attached to their culture and land.
In fact the lyrics of the songs are all in the Filipino language while their tattoo models come from the ancient Filipino tattoo, inspired by Whang-Od Oggay, the last Filipino Mambabatok tattoo artist of 106 years old.
With the “Derby Roma Gang" events they invite various Filipino artists from outside of the city to Rome, from Milan or England. These artists come to the capital to support this collective of young people.
Tagalog is the dialect of the lyrics of their music and they are a big family with various “kapamilya" scattered in different cities, but which have Rome as their base. In Tagalog, “kapamilya” means family members.
With this project I would like to talk about this underground movement that was born in the Roman Hip Hop subculture.
They are artists trained on the street with difficult situations behind them but with a great love for music and art.
